The Dash Mushroom is an exception, as it is only available during Time Attack mode and during the first race on Rainbow Downhill. Special items are those which are specific to certain characters. All special items must be unlocked by winning races. Players race in 24 courses in six stages with each stage having four courses and a challenge the first two are forward, last two are similar but with changed gimmick and environment, (e.g.
